HOLIDAY INN MALPENSA - TORNAVENTO
22km - 2 hours - medium difficulty
A relaxing route along the Ticino river, going South, along the canal towpaths.
We go downhill towards Vizzola Ticino, passing the works of the hydro power station, admiring the waterway locks and continuing along the industrial canal towpath until we reach the tight curves leading to the old customs house, on an uphill, unpaved road. We then reach Piazza Parravicino in Tornavento, surrounded by lovely rural buildings and a great vantage point over the valley below.
It is time to make our way back, descending, with great care, on the main road until we reach the iron bridge of Oleggio and the banks of the Ticino, which here flows fast and strong, then pedal up to the hamlet of Vizzola to examine the remains of buildings constructed for the Caproni Land Reclamation in the early Twentieth Century, and from here to Case Nuove.
There are two uphill sections to this route; the second is particularly hard, while the path along the river is picturesque albeit somewhat rocky and bumpy.
