CROWNE PLAZA - LAGOZZA
CROWNE PLAZA - LAGOZZA
30km - 2,5 hour - easy
An easy route in the plain crossing Somma Lombardo, with its Visconti Casle, leading to the archeological area of Lagozza di Besnate.
We begin by crossing the plain, a landscape of rural settlements, horse farms, ranches and fields. We take the road to Somma Lombardo, where soon we will marvel at the imposing structure of the Visconti Castle, next to Villa Dolci and the Basilica of St. Agnese.
We then move towards the outskirts, just outside the woods, and find the shrine to Our Lady of the Acorn, and soon afterwards a masterpiece of Romanesque-Lombard architecture, the Basilica and Baptistery of Arsago Seprio. In the same area there is also a Longobard necropolis, with a small but very interesting museum.
The tour ends at Lagozza di Besnate, a Paleolithic settlement on piles dating back to over 5 thousand years ago. Just beside it there is a farmhouse selling local products. To return we can take a detour around Casorate Sempione, in the horse farm area.
The route is flat and easy; at the beginning it includes unpaved stretches which may be a bit bumpy
