B&B IL POGGIO - CASTELSEPRIO

A tough route leading to the archeological area of Seprio, central to the cultural heritage of the Province.

The route runs along the hills of the Varese Province, up and down hillsides, going by ancient churches, the mighty Visconti Castle of Ierago, Liberty villas, religious shrines and parish churches, until it reaches Castelseprio. Here, on a high plain, we find the ruins of a late Roman fortress, right next to the church of S. Maria Foris Portas, decorated with admirable Late Medieval frescoes.  

On our way back we can take a detour to Milanello, headquarters of the famous soccer team ACMilan. We then pedal by an ostrich farm and finally, in the hamlet of Cajello, close to an ancient mill, we make our way into the woods, crossing the Besnate water-sources, an important site for its unique environmental features.

The route is tough, with many uphill sections, so conserve your strength in view of the climb to the archaeological digs of Castelseprio and, on the way back, the hill to Carnago.
