HOTEL CONCA AZZURRA - SAN QUIRICO

HOTEL CONCA AZZURRA – S. QUIRICO

10km - 1 hour - easy

An easy cycle around the hills of San Quirico, in a landscape of vineyards dominated by the fortress of Borromeo di Angera.

A simple itinerary, which anyone can easily take, with a few hundred meters on trafficked roads. We leave from the hotel, taking the left-hand road, and after a stretch flanked by villas and gardens we reach Professor Ogliari's European Transport Museum. There are no words to describe this place, just trust that it is a must-see which will enthrall and delight adults and children alike.
Back to our route, we reach the main road to Angera, where there can be a lot of traffic, so pay careful attention.

The road crosses Via Valcastellana, which we shall take for a small uphill stretch of about 1500 meters, arriving to the Cascina Al Piano, home to a fine winery producing the most well-known vintages in the area. Guided tours can be organized through the local tourist office.
Continuing along the main road we reach Angera.

The town of Angera is known for the Borromeo Fortress, an ancient Medieval castle, integrally preserved, which can be visited year-round, with the bonus of enjoying one of the loveliest views in the Varese Province. Angera's town center is car-free and full of quaint shops, with a wide and pleasant lakeside, particularly enjoyable in the summer months.

From Angera we continue onto Ranco, taking a panoramic route just a few meters from the lakeside, a great route for enjoying the water's beauty and tranquillity (perhaps not so much on Sundays). The lakeside in Ranco is a popular stop for an aperitivo during the hot season. The last uphill stretch leads us back to the hotel.

The route itself is rather short but budget 3 hours for visits to the Transport Museum and the Angera Fortress.
